Equations of Motion Revision Questions

1. An object moving linearly at 27 m/s comes to rest in 9 s after decelerating uniformly. What is the acceleration and the distance travelled by the object?

  1. Acceleration = 3 m/s2; Distance = 121.5 m
  2. Acceleration = -3 m/s2; Distance = 243 m
  3. Acceleration = 3 m/s2; Distance = 243 m
  4. Acceleration = -3 m/s2; Distance = 121.5 m

Correct Answer: D

2. An object is thrown upwards at 18 m/s. What is the height from the ground and the magnitude of the object's velocity after 2 s? For convenience, take the magnitude of the gravitational acceleration equal to 10 m/s2.

  1. Height = 16 m; |Velocity| = 2 m/s
  2. Height = 32 m; |Velocity| = 4 m/s
  3. Height = 18 m; |Velocity| = 2 m/s
  4. Height = 16 m; |Velocity| = 4 m/s

Correct Answer: A

3. An object falls from 80 m above the ground. What is the vertical distance the object has travelled during the last second of motion? For convenience, take the magnitude of the gravitational acceleration equal to 10 m/s2.

  1. 45 m
  2. 35 m
  3. 40 m
  4. 10 m

Correct Answer: B
